Radiesse®

Popular for its long-lasting results, Radiesse® is a biocompatible, non-toxic, non-allergenic dermal filler that reduces the appearance of wrinkles and skin folds around the mouth and nose, and fills certain scars. Radiesse helps restore the skin’s collagen in facial areas that have begun to wrinkle and sag.

Radiesse is a safe and effective treatment for smoothing moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, as well as for correcting volume loss in the backs of the hands. Most healthy adults between the ages of 30 and 60 make excellent candidates for Radiesse.

I originally had the laser procedure for acne scars. Unfortunately, I did not noticed much difference from it. Luckily, Dr. Sinha offered complementary microneedling since my results were disappointing. The microneedling worked much better–in 1 session I noticed more of a difference than with the laser, with much less downtime. I would highly recommend this less publicized procedure!

What is Radiesse?

At its elemental level, Radiesse is not collagen, but a compound of calcium hydroxyl apatite microspheres that are suspended in a carboxymethylcellulose gel. The gel carrier suspends the CaHA particles and allows them to be delivered through injection needles. The gel contains an organic compound of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, as well as glycerin and sterile water. Over time, the gel is absorbed and the body metabolizes the CaHA microspheres, leaving behind only your own natural collagen.
The facial filler’s key compound, calcium hydroxylapatite, is identical in composition to the mineral portion of human bone, thus making it exceptionally compatible for natural wrinkle treatment in the body.

What can I expect from Radiesse treatments?

Radiesse provides both immediate and long-lasting treatment results. Radiesse usually provides up to 80 percent visible improvement in volume and smoothness immediately after injection, and the results are fully evident within one week. The results of Radiesse treatments may last up to one year as the body continues to produce its own natural collagen, but must be repeated over the years to maintain the benefit.

At the Atlanta Institute for Facial Aesthetic Surgery, we inject Radiesse onsite in our clinic. Radiesse injections are virtually painless, thanks to the recent addition of a numbing agent into the solution. Depending upon the extent of your treatment, the procedure can take up to 15 minutes. Patients can return home within minutes after the procedure, and resume normal activities immediately.

Redness, swelling, itching or tenderness may occur at the site of the injections. These side effects are minimal, and generally disappear within a few days. You may also experience some small lumps in the injection areas, but these resolve quickly.
